While climbing Hwy 9, I met up with Kevin Donohoe, who was riding a full-suspension mountain bike. We got to talking and turns out he’s the guy who found the lost couple in Castle Rock State Park in the fall of 2006.
Based on what he told me, Kevin has a knack for finding stuff (and bodies) on his rides. He went hiking on his own looking for the couple and got lucky.
On a sweltering hot day Big Basin beckoned, but late spring rains made for excellent mosquito breeding. Bring your Off! It was 67 degrees in the park, better than 78 degrees on Hwy 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Riding up Bear Creek Road was a good choice, with 90 percent of the climb in shade.
